The British Columbia River Outfitters Association

Special provisions are guidelines that have been developed for more than 125 river sections in British Columbia. These provisions outline the basic requirements that we have agreed need to be met in order to operate a safe and enjoyable trip for our guests.

The approved special provisions include every river section in BC. New rivers are proposed to industry annually and vetted by operators to ensure a consistent approach to requirements.

The provisions are posted in PDF format:

Myth: Rafting is only for risk takers Busted: Everyone from little kids to 95 year olds, the meekest of men, and even people who are wheelchair bound have been on rafting trips in B.C. Most operators offer one or two float trips, which are little more than a drift with the current on a moving lake. All you need is an interest in nature and being outdoors. Call the company you plan to go with to find out what they recommend for a mellow option.
